To help adjust to the leaving of his father, Captian Benjamin Sisko, Jake joins an archealogical team on Bajor. After a few days exploring and cataloging the teams findings, a vedic's assisstant comes to Jake with an ancient document that she believes has some importance to him as he is the Emissary's son. Jake reads the document and decides that it is for him and goes to follow the instructions mentioned in it. Meanwhile, Colonel Kira is trying to get Deep Space 9 back together after the Dominion War when the core develops a breach. Lieutenant Nog comes up with the idea of salvaging Deep Space 9's sister station core since most of that space station has been rendered useless in the war. During this time, everyone reflects on the war and tries to figure out where to go from here. This book filled in alot of gaps and is a great start to the new era for Deep Space 9.
