Encounter at Farpoint will always be my favorite because TNG was the first series that I was introduced to.
Did anyone notice Troi wearing a full commander's pips in this episode? I think it was that Picard made her a Temporary First Officer until Riker came aboard.
Second would be "The Cage" because it was a very intelligent episode. I mean it introduced things that were unheard of at the time it was made, such as a female first officer. Now in today's society, we see Female CEO's.
Third would be Caretaker. At last, we got to see a female captain. Except in "Yesterday's Enterprise" we didn't see a female captain at all in Trek.

I said Caretaker, because it introduced a great premise with a cast that look like it gelled in the first season. Also, I love the concept of "The Caretaker" and wish they came back to that after "Cold Fire." Its a shame this premise didn't stick all throughout the series' run. Ranking them in order of preference:
Caretaker Broken Bow Emissary Encounter at Farpoint
And I havn't seen "Cage" or Where No Man Has Gone Before."

"Emissary" first with "The Cage" and "Broken Bow" tied for second. The fact that they are the pilots for my three favorite Treks probably has something to do with it. Gdog, you need to start watching Trek Classic. You're missing the best stuff.

Actually, the original series pilot was "The Man Trap." I thought Broken Bow was the pest pilot. I just wish the later Enterprise episodes were as good. There hasnt been one better than "Broken Bow", and that is funny because every other series had a better episode than the pilot at some point during the first season.

No, 8247. "The Man Trap" was the first episode aired."WNHGB" was the pilot but NBC decided to run a "monster" episode first.

The Cage also gets my vote, as it is the cornerstone of the Trek universe, a very intelligent piece (way ahead of its time). There were a few other female captains seen before Rachel Garrett...in STIV, the captain of the USS Saratoga was an African-American woman, and there were a couple female captains seen early on in TNG. One might assume as well that as someone in charge of Fleet Operations, Admiral Nechayev was probably a starship captain as well.
